Former Kansas City Fullback special teamer Boomer Grisby signs with the Dolphins.
Grigsby played the past three years for the Kansas City Chiefs, which selected him in the fifth round of the 2005 draft. Grigsby switched to fullback last year after he played his first two seasons at linebacker, his position in college at Illinois State.
Primarily a special teams player, Grigsby is known as a hard hitter who also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds at the 2005 NFL scouting combine.
He has been a backup his whole career that has been effective on special teams due to great intensity, effort and good straight line speed. He is slightly undersized for the position and is not a top athlete. This move is probably more for Parcells desire to improve special teams although the Dolphins current 500 lb fullback underachieved last year.
Grisby is stiff in the knees and has a hard time breaking down for open field tackles. He has very good lateral range, but can get into trouble when having to filter his way through trash around his feet. He can be explosive when taking on blockers but has short arms and struggles to defeat and shed blocks. He is quick to pull the trigger once he locates the level of the ball, however he can struggle finding the ball at times due to his lack of size. He is the type that is always going to be in a battle for a position on the team, even though you have to love his intensity and character.
